Partner Search Forum in Varaždin

The first partner search event of the Programme took place on 7 June 2010 in Varaždin, the seat of Varaždinska County, one of the adjacent regions of the Programme. The Partner Search Forum was attended by 150 representatives of potential project partners from as many as 50 different organizations from the whole Programme area.  The event was an opportunity for the potential project partners to form partnerships as well as to develop project ideas and get detailed information about the Programme.

This whole-day event started with a morning session opened by Ms Nóra Bartha, programme manager for the Hungary-Croatia IPA Cross-border Co-operation Programme in the Managing Authority in Budapest and Mr Darko Stilinović, Head of the Department for Cross-border Co-operation in the Ministry of Regional Development, Forestry and Water Management in Zagreb, who welcomed the participants.

The opening session was concluded by a presentation of the Programme by the members of the Joint Technical Secretariat including an overview of the First Call for Proposals and the work on the launch of the Second Call for Proposals by Ms Diána Rózsa, Head of JTS; information on communication issues including Information Days schedule given by Mr Tvrtko Čelan, Programme and Communication Manager within the JTS and some practical information regarding the Second Call presented by Márton Szűcs, Ph.D., Senior Programme Manager within the JTS.

The day continued with groups working in four different thematic workshops, moderated by the members of the Joint Technical Secretariat and the HU-HR Information Point and each covering a specific Area of Intervention of the Programme:
Workshop 1: Sustainable and Attractive Environment
Workshop 2: Co-operative Economy (Actions 2.1.1 and 2.1.2)
Workshop 3: Co-operative Economy (Actions 2.1.3 and 2.1.4)
Workshop 4: Intercommunity Human Resources Development

The workshops dealt with the specific Areas of Interventions and the supported Actions in more detail, presenting the possibilities for projects within each of them. Participants of each workshop were encouraged to present their own project ideas, as well as share their previous experiences with the Programme and with other EU funded Programmes.

The workshops also provided the opportunity for the new Partner Search Module of the Programme Web site to be presented to the participants, who were encouraged to use it for assistance in partnership building.

At the closing session, the moderators of the workshops and the participants presented their conclusions including a number of interesting project ideas developed within the workshops.

In many ways the first partner search event organised within the Programme was an uncharted territory, but with joint efforts of the implementing structures and the welcome inputs from the participants’ side, the voyage into the unknown was a successful one. In order to get a better insight into the results of the event, and to provide valuable information for the organization of future similar events, the participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire.

The results of the survey gave a further reason for satisfaction to the organizers, as they showed that most of the participants found the event useful, well timed, well organized, and meeting their expectations. The additional inputs on the motives for participation, and the suggestions for improvement will be a valuable source of information for the future events.
